2022 Big Ten Championship Women’s Illini #25 Golf Set

CHAMPAGNE, Ill. – Illinois’ No. 25 women’s golf team will be in the hunt for a Big Ten title this weekend as the Illini travel to Pittsburgh, Pa. for the 2022 Big Ten Women’s Golf Championships from 22 to April 24.

The Big Ten Championships move to Fox Chapel Golf Club in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania for the 2022 edition of the tournament and will set up as a par 71 and play 6,045 yards.

Fox Chapel Golf Club is Pittsburgh’s premier family club and one of the best in the country. The restoration of the 18-hole Seth Raynor Golf Course was completed in 2020. The restoration included the construction of 97 new bunkers in the shapes seen on the original 1923 course; sand lines, mowing lines, green shapes, fairway widths have been restored to Mr. Raynor’s original design; the signature greens were restored; 12 new front tees added; several back tees were pushed back further to lengthen the course. The golf course is consistently ranked among the Top 100 Classic Courses by Golfweek Magazine, Pennsylvania’s Top 10 Courses by LINKSmagazine, Golfweek’s 2020 Best Private Courses State by State, Pennsylvania’s Best Golf Courses by Golf Digest, the Top 10 Seth Raynor Courses by LINKSmagazine.com, and in “The 100 Most Prestigious Golf Clubs in the World” by Links Magazine. The course offers a challenging layout and its distinctive, tiered elevated greens compel golfers of all skill levels to play unique and imaginative shots.

There will be 14 teams competing in the 54-hole tournament with 18 holes played each competition day.

Friday and Saturday tee times will begin at 7:30 a.m. CT at holes 1 and 10, with Sunday starting at 7 a.m. CT.

The Illini six will start the first hole, with a freshman Alise Knudson kicks off Friday at 9:18 a.m. CT. Senior Crystal Wang is the last Illini to depart at 10:03 a.m. CT. Illini will be paired with Michigan and Michigan State in Friday’s first round.

All 14 Big Ten Conference schools will participate in the championship, including Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Maryland, Michigan, Michigan State, Minnesota, Nebraska, Northwest, Ohio State, Penn State, Purdue, Rutgers and Wisconsin.

Only Michigan (18) ranks higher than Illini (26) in Golfstat’s latest team rankings, followed by Michigan State (34), Northwest (36), Purdue (44) , Ohio State (55), Maryland (63), Nebraska (70), Wisconsin (92), Penn State (93), Minnesota (97), Rutgers (118), Iowa (133) and Indiana (147).

The Illini were also ranked in the latest Mizuno Women’s Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) Coaches Poll on April 15, coming in at No. 25, while the Wolverines also appeared in the poll at No. 19.

This is the 40th running of the Big Ten Conference Women’s Golf Championships, with the Illini coming off a ninth-place finish in 2021 with a total of 895 par-31 tournaments over TPC River’s Bend from April 23-25. . Former standout Tristyn Nowlin led the way individually for the Illini, tied for 22nd with a five-for-221 for the 54-hole event.

The Illini will be looking for their first Big Ten title and have already recorded six top-three finishes in championship history, including consecutive second-place finishes in 2018 and 2019 and four consecutive third-place finishes from 1992-1995. .

Illinois wrapped up its 2021-22 regular season last weekend, earning a third-place finish at the Lady Buckeye Invitational with a 913 par 49 total over Ohio State Golf Club Scarlet’s par 72, 6,319 yards Race. This is the second consecutive top five for the Illini and the sixth top five of the season.

Individual, senior Crystal Wang posted her third top five of the season as she tied for fifth with a total of 222 tournaments by over six after earning a final score of 77 (+5). With Wang, the Orange and the Blue had three Illini in the top 15 as a senior Kornkamol Sukaree finished tied for ninth with a total of 227 by 11+ and as a sophomore Isabelle Sy had its third straight top 15 as it tied for 12th with a 54-hole total of 229 (+13).

Following the conclusion of the Big Ten Championships, the Illini then await their playoff fate until the NCAA Championship selection is announced Wednesday, April 27 at 3:00 p.m. CT on Golf Channel. NCAA Regionals are scheduled for May 9-11.
