Alabama Men’s Golf to Host New Event in Shoal Creek with SEC Match Play Hosted by Jerry Pate


TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Alabama Men’s Golf Team is back in action starting Sunday as they host the other 13 SEC teams for the SEC Match Play hosted by Jerry Pate. The three-day event will run Sunday through Tuesday and take place on the 7,370-yard Shoal Creek Club course at par 72.

The 14 SEC teams will compete in match play, with 36 holes played on Sunday and 18 holes played on Monday and Tuesday. Each team is guaranteed to play matches every day, even if they are eliminated. The winners will remain in the championship bracket en route to Tuesday’s final match.

Alabama lineup and tournament schedule

  • Alabama’s match play lineup is Thomas meditates, Clay cannon, JP Cave, Tyler lipscomb and Jones Free
  • Ponder is Tide’s most experienced match-play player, having made seven appearances and with an overall rating of 4-3-0.
  • Claycomb (1-1), Cave (0-2) and Lipscomb (0-2) have all played two career head-to-head matches
  • Free will debut at Crimson Tide
  • Sunday billiards begins with 36 holes, 18-hole matches in the morning:

      • 7:30 a.m. – Texas A&M vs. Vanderbilt
      • 7:50 a.m. – LSU vs. Alabama
      • 8:20 a.m. – Arkansas vs. Mississippi State
      • 8:40 am – Auburn vs. Ole Miss
    • Hole n ° 10
      • 7:50 a.m. – Florida vs South Carolina
      • 8:20 a.m. – Georgia vs Kentucky
      • 8:40 a.m. – Tennessee vs Missouri
  • Afternoon 18-hole matches will have predetermined pairs
    • Hole n ° 1
      • 1:00 p.m.Winner Texas A&M vs. LSU / Alabama
      • 1:20 p.m. – Winner of Arkansas / Mississippi State vs. Auburn / Ole Miss winner
      • 1:50 p.m. – Loser LSU / Alabama vs Loser Florida / South Carolina
      • 2:10 p.m. – Arkansas / Mississippi State loser to Georgia / Kentucky loser
    • Hole n ° 10
      • 1:00 p.m. – Vanderbilt vs. the winner Florida / South Carolina
      • 1:20 p.m. – Winner Georgia / Kentucky vs. winner Tennessee / Missouri
      • 2:10 p.m. – Loser Auburn / Ole Miss vs. Tennessee / Missouri loser

  • After a 35-year run, the Jerry Pate Intercollegiate National Golf Tournament moved to SEC Match Play hosted by Jerry Pate
  • The 14-team field includes six of the top 25 teams in the NCAA Men’s Golf Rankings, led by 7th overall Vanderbilt, Texas A&M (13), Georgia (14), Arkansas (15), Auburn (17) and Tennessee (22)
  • The peloton also includes four of the top 15 PGA Tour U players competing: Sam Bennett, Texas A&M, (2); Ryan Hall, South Carolina, (4); Jackson Suber, Univ. from Mississippi, (11); and Trent Phillips, Univ. from Georgia, (12)
  • Admission is free and fans are welcome
