Alabama’s No. 12 men’s golf set to wrap up fall campaign at Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate Invitational

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. –The Alabama men’s golf team is set to wrap up its fall roster this weekend at the Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate Invitational hosted by Georgia Tech. The No. 12-ranked Crimson Tide is part of a 13-team field that includes seven teams ranked in the top 20 in the nation, according to Golfstat.com.

The Tide had a successful fall campaign, beginning with winning the Rod Myers Invitational. UA has not finished below fifth in any event in the 2022-23 campaign and will look to continue the top-five ranking streak this weekend.

The three-day, 54-hole tournament will be held Friday through Sunday at the 7,017-yard par 72 Georgia Golf Club – Lakeside course in Alpharetta, Georgia. Departure times begin at 9:00 a.m. Friday and Saturday and 8:30 a.m. on Sunday. .

Programming

  • The Crimson Tide line up will consist of Claycomb cannon, Thomas Ponder, Nick Dunlap, Jonathan Griz and JP Cave
  • Alabama is led by Claycomb, Dunlap and Ponder, who have filled Tide’s lineup at every event this season
    • Claycomb, who ranks No. 17 in the nation according to Golfweek Individual Rank, leads the team with a 68.89 stroke average.
    • Ponder finished in the top two of Tide’s roster in all three fall contests, averaging 69.56 shots while carding five rounds in the 60s.
    • Dunlap has finished in the top 20 in all three tournaments this season and leads the team with six of his nine rounds in the 60s

  • Junior JP Cave and freshman Jonathan Griz complete Tide’s starting five for this weekend
  • Senior Tyler Lip Comb will also participate in the event as an individual

Tournament Overview

  • Originally named The United States Collegiate Championship, the Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate Invitational was established in 2005 and became an addition to the college fall program in 2010.
  • The Crimson Tide have already participated in the event six times, winning a third place in 2008
  • The 13-team field includes seven teams in the nation’s top 20, including six teams from the 2022 NCAA Championship field
  • In addition to the Crimson Tide, other ranked teams in the field include No. 7 Stanford, No. 8 Virginia, No. 9 Texas A&M, No. 10 Tennessee, No. 13 Georgia Tech, No. 20 Pepperdine, Wake Forest, Washington, Duke, East Tennessee State, Clemson and Southern California
