Arizona Biltmore Golf Club Begins Phased Renovation

The Arizona Biltmore Golf Club will begin a multi-phase renovation project in early April. The historic investment by the club’s owning group, JDM Partners, follows consultation with neighbors, community stakeholders, the City of Phoenix and industry experts. JDM Partners’ approach to this unprecedented investment in Arizona Biltmore Golf Club is simple: improve facilities and courses to ensure they are preserved for the community and future generations. All of this must be accomplished in a manner consistent with the history of Arizona Biltmore Golf Club and its historic position among the top international golf and resort destinations.

Douglas Fredrikson Architects is the architectural practice and will work with JDM Golf, as well as Sundt Construction, to complete the project. The first phase of the renovation project is expected to be completed in early 2023 and will include a new golf shop and member facilities (located in one building) and underground cart storage. Located adjacent to the current Adobe Clubhouse, the new golf shop building and underground cart storage will maximize space and provide a clean appearance for arriving members and guests. When complete, the golf club parking lot will be expanded and the resort-style landscaping will blend in seamlessly with the surrounding Biltmore community and resort.

The second phase of improvements includes a new clubhouse and restaurant, replacing the existing event tent and clubhouse, which includes the Adobe restaurant. It will also bring additional improvements to on-site parking and landscaping. The new golf boutique and clubhouse facilities will rival recent investments in the Arizona Biltmore Hotel and Wrigley Mansion, bringing Arizona Biltmore Golf Club on par with these world-class facilities.

The golf shop and clubhouse were designed with the spirit of a luxurious estate, scaled and designed appropriately with its immediate neighbors, with the aim of enhancing the community. The single-storey pavilion and restaurant will sit on a grassy canvas with water features and colorful landscaping. When designing the new pavilion, Douglas Fredrikson Architects incorporated many notable elements of the Biltmore Resort and community, including the Biltmore concrete block and weathered copper fascia prominently within the grounds of the resort.

“We sincerely appreciate the passion and nostalgia that so many of our friends and neighbors have for this beautiful oasis,” said JDM Partners Principal Jerry Colangelo. “We want to thank them for working with us to build a better Biltmore Golf Club.”

The golf courses at Arizona Biltmore Golf Club (Adobe and Links) and the existing clubhouse will remain open throughout Phase 1 of the construction of the new golf shop and underground cart storage. With construction activity, parking will be limited. On most days parking will be valet only and no self parking is available.

Planning is also underway to renovate and restore the club’s Adobe course while preserving its famous park setting. The Adobe Course, one of the most historic golf courses in the state, opened in 1929 and was designed by William Bell. The renovation will infuse modern golf course design and water conservation technology so golfers can continue to enjoy their rounds for another century. Scottsdale resident, five-time PGA TOUR champion and 1996 Open Championship winner Tom Lehman leads the golf course design team and work is expected to begin on the Adobe course in 2023.

“Arizona Biltmore Golf Club’s first century was spectacular,” adds Colangelo. “We are excited about what lies ahead for the next 100 years.”

The Arizona Biltmore Golf Club is located in the shadow of the Phoenix Mountain Preserve. The 36-hole golf course includes the Adobe course and the Links course. The lush fairways and spacious layout of the Adobe are reminiscent of how the game was meant to be played. The Links Course, the younger of Biltmore’s two courses, has earned the respect of golfers as one of Arizona’s top golf courses. Rolling, pine-lined fairways meander through some of Phoenix’s finest homes. For nearly a century, Arizona Biltmore Golf Club has been a destination for Phoenix residents, business leaders, celebrities and dignitaries. Today, thanks to the unparalleled expertise and experience of JDM Partners, which recently completed the revitalization of The Wigwam facilities in Phoenix’s West Valley, the iconic Arizona Biltmore Golf Club will soon return to the rankings of best international golf and resort destinations.
