Why buy a set of golf clubs during Black Friday?

Black Friday offers plenty of opportunities for beginner golfers and those new to the sport to pick up a great deal on a set of new golf clubs. And if you were wondering if you should get a full set, there’s no better chance. Golf clubs don’t come cheap, and buying clubs individually can cost you a lot, and may not always be worth it if you’re just getting into the sport. For this reason, manufacturers are offering new players a great way to secure themselves a premium, forgiving bag of clubs in the form of a golf set.

Bundle sets tend to cost a lot less than buying a set of irons, driver and putter individually. This is because the manufacturers know that new golfers don’t always want to shell out a fortune on a set of clubs that they may not use as regularly as a low handicap player. And while you can pay a discounted price for your first set of clubs, you can grab a bargain during the Black Friday sales on some great sets of clubs.

These package bundles are significantly cheaper and save your budget for when/if you keep playing and upgrade to some of golf’s best drivers. (opens in a new tab)best golf irons (opens in a new tab)best golf wedges (opens in a new tab) and the best putters (opens in a new tab). From our testing, we’ve found that the majority of pack sets offer a decent amount of performance in the sense that you’ll be able to get the ball in the air and hit some good shots. If you want to go high end, like the TaylorMade RBZ SpeedLite set (opens in a new tab), then you will probably get a set of 12 high quality clubs that can last you a good number of years. Another key thing to consider is whether you want your set to come with a stand bag or a cart bag. Stand bags are versatile as they can be transported and used on a cart/trolley, while cart bags don’t really have transport functions so you will have to buy one of the best golf carts. (opens in a new tab) (or check out our best golf cart deals (opens in a new tab)) to help you roll it around the course.

Why should you consider when buying a set of golf clubs?

Are you new to the game and looking to get yourself a set of golf clubs? Here are several factors you might want to consider before choosing a set.

What comes in the set

The great thing about golf is that if you want to buy single golf clubs for your bag, you can also get complete sets with one purchase. When doing the latter, it’s worth checking which clubs are in the set to make sure all the bases are covered, and it’s also worth getting a bag with the set.

Quality

A common issue for beginner sets can be quality. Unlike the models we’ve picked out above, many can be poorly made and have issues with the head, shaft, or grip, or all three. Therefore, it is definitely worth going for brands that are highly respected in the game of golf as the products will have been manufactured correctly and designed to help beginners as much as possible. The prevalence of Wilson and Callaway in this area is a good example.

Forgiveness

The main factor when looking specifically at the clubs themselves is forgiveness. The most common problem for beginning players is missed shots that limit distance and hinder accuracy. Beginner golf clubs are designed to have larger heads and sweet spots, and therefore more forgiveness to help players maintain solid contact with the golf ball.

Budget

Obviously, there are different sets at different prices, so it’s worth considering whether you want to spend more or less here. This point also ties into what comes in the set, as sets that come with bags, headwear, etc., usually have a higher price tag.

The USGA and R&A have unveiled regular updates to the Rules of Golf as they continue to make the Rules easier to understand and apply. The new rules will come into effect on January 1, 2023. The 2023 edition continues the modernization process, emphasizing both inclusion and sustainability. For the first time, the Modified Rules for Disabled Players have been fully incorporated into the Game Rules without the need for a Local Rule. The governing bodies, supported by long-time partner Rolex, will also promote access to the Rules through digital and mobile applications while significantly reducing the production and distribution of more than 4 million printed books.

Several penalties have been relaxed and language has been clarified to help golfers at all levels of play.

The main changes include:

Changes for disabled players: The changes to the Rules for players with disabilities have been incorporated into the Rules and are effective for all players classified in the categories covered by Rule 25.

Using the Handicap in Stroke Play: With the continued growth of scoring technology following the adoption of the World Handicap System™, players are no longer penalized for failing to put their handicap on their scorecard in stroke play. The committee will be responsible for ensuring the accuracy of each player’s handicap.

Club damaged during round: The rule was amended to allow a player to replace a club damaged during a round, provided the player did not damage it through abuse.

Ball moved by natural forces: A new exception provides that a ball at rest must be replaced if it moves to another area of the course or comes to rest out of bounds after being dropped, placed or replaced.

Back-on-the-line clearance procedure: The back-on-the-line relief procedure, often used for the penalty area and unplayable ball relief, has been simplified so that the player now drops his ball over the line, and the ball must come to rest unless one club length from where it is released.

“The growing popularity of golf continues to guide our decision-making, and modernizing the rules to promote inclusivity and accessibility is clearly a big step in the right direction,” said Thomas Pagel, director of governance at the ‘USGA. “This latest development is particularly important to the disabled golf community, and we hope it will encourage more people to play and enjoy the game.”

Grant Moir, R&A Rules Director, said: “We continue to improve and adapt the Rules of Golf to ensure they match the way the modern game is played. This means making the Rules easier to understand and access for all golfers and making the sport more inclusive and welcoming for golfers with disabilities. We are also working to ensure golf has a sustainable long-term future and making more resources available digitally is key to achieving this goal.

Players are reminded that the current edition of the Rules of Golf (2019) still applies when playing or posting scores for the remainder of 2022.

As an extension of its support for the Rules of Golf around the world, Rolex is committed to supporting the efforts of the R&A and the USGA to modernize the Rules of Golf. The Swiss watchmaker’s contribution to excellence in golf is based on a rich heritage spanning more than 50 years, forged through key partnerships at all levels of the game, from the sport’s major professional and amateur competitions and organizations to players at pinnacle of their sport. worldwide.

“However, making the most of the space is not just about golf, as it is a beloved ‘green lung’ in the city that we want to attract more people to.

“Walking and being active in nature is free and has many health benefits.

“The introduction of footgolf will also provide a new, affordable leisure activity that could appeal to people who would not otherwise have come for traditional golf.

“I am happy that the regeneration of this important green site has taken a big step forward.

“I would like to thank everyone for their time and input in helping us get to this point and appreciate that in doing so, we have achieved a solution that confidently brings sustainability and certainty to the site.”

Rhydian Thomas and Roger Maliphant, directors of Future Golf Ventures and Swansea Footgolf, said: “We are delighted to have been chosen as the preferred bidder to manage The Approach’s leisure offering and bring pitch and putt golf back into the mainstream. High Common.

“We have already engaged extensively with the community, prior to the success of our tender, and will continue to do so regularly, while we are stewards of the site.

“We are also looking forward to introducing a small, challenging Footgolf course, as a new activity, whilst being mindful of the local heritage, environment and biodiversity of the land.”
