Golf set to compete at Doc Gimmler Intercollegiate
Villanova, PA – The Villanova Golf team will travel to Farmingdale, New York, to participate in the Doc Gimmler Intercollegiate this weekend. The event, hosted by St. Johns University, will take place over the weekend, September 11-12. Villanova will start at 9:10 am on Saturday morning.
Doc Gimmler will be held on the red course at Bethpage State Park, a 7,092 yard par 70 course. This will be Villanova’s first appearance in the tournament since the 2018-19 season, when they finished 12/14.
The land includes host St. Johns, Colgate, Columbia, Harvard, Hofstra, Holy Cross, Iona, Lafayette, Lehigh, Navy, Towson, UCONN, Villanova and Yale.
In their first tournament of the season last weekend, Villanova put in a strong performance, finishing 7/15 at the Alex Lagowitz Memorial. As a team, they shot 308 and 287 on day one, followed by a round of 294 to wrap up the event. Sophomore Peter Weaver led the way for the Wildcats, finishing at 4 and tying 15e.
Villanova will feature a lineup of Weaver, Matthew Copeland, Noah Peck, Vimal Alokam and Matt Minerva, with Jack O’Hara competing as an individual.
The forecast calls for a partly cloudy day on Saturday, with a high of 74 and a high of 77 on Sunday, with a possibility of late thunderstorms.
