Over 130 veteran golfers from Griffith and the NSW area participated in the Vets Week Golf Tournament last week and praised Griffith Golf Course as one of the best in NSW. Tournament Director and Griffith Veteran Golfers Association President Rob Trembath said players heading to vet tournaments across NSW had praised the course. “This is a great tribute to the Griffith Golf Club, its two gardeners and its team of volunteers who keep the course in top condition,” he said. Mr Trembath said it was great that the tournament was able to be held again after COVID forced the cancellation of the 2020 event. The Griffith Vets, with help from the Women’s Golf Griffith and the Griffith Golf Club , were able to organize a COVID-SAFE 2021 tournament over four days in ideal weather conditions. Although the number of players was lower than normal due to restrictions on regional travel, participants played golf, enjoyed the hospitality of the locals and visits to Griffith’s attractions on the rest day. The tournament featured three days of stableford competition, with prizes awarded across three levels for each day as well as 36- and 54-hole events and a club team competition. RELATED The last day of play on Friday was a 4BBB event followed by an introductory feature that saw Griffith Golf Club member Robyn Kefford win the coveted “Player of the Tournament Award.” The 4BBB event was won by Griffith golfers Julie and Doug McWilliam.
