Men’s golf set to compete in JT Poston Invitational

The High Point University men’s golf team will travel to West Carolina Monday and Tuesday to compete in the JT Poston Invitational.
There is a range of teams included in the field, including Western Carolina, Abilene Christian, Appalachian State, Bellarmine, Belmont, Chattanooga, Coastal Carolina, Elon, Francis Marion, Georgia State, James Madison, Kennesaw State, Morehead State, UNC Wilmington, Western Kentucky, and Wofford.
Sapphire Valley Country Club
Playing on a par-71, 7,007 yard course, the magnificent Sapphire Valley Country Club is a private, member-owned club that features a golf course in the valley, a lavish clubhouse, a state-of-the-art fitness center and a tennis center. . The course winds through mature hardwood forest and the scenic Southern Appalachian Mountains which offer breathtaking views and a natural setting. The course, which sits on a flat valley floor despite its mountainous surroundings, was originally designed by George Cobb and updated by Bill Bergin.
Format and schedule
Monday begins the action with 36 holes of continuous play with a shotgun start. On Tuesday, the teams will play 18 holes to finish. The setup is a Par-71 consisting of 7,007 yards.
The High Point men’s golf team wrapped up play at the Jim Rivers Intercollegiate on Tuesday, September 13. The Panthers came in 19th out of 24 teams with Alan Smith performing at the top individually. Smith tied for 52nd overall.
High Point will travel to Spartanburg, South Carolina on Sunday, October 9 to compete at Carolina Collegiate. This is a three-day event hosted by USC Upstate.
