Men’s golf set to play Redhawk Invitational on Monday

UNIVERSITY PLACE, Wash. – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Men’s Vaqueros Golf Team is set to play the 2022 Redhawk Invitational beginning Monday at Chamber’s Bay Golf Course.

The 54-hole event will feature 36 holes on Monday and the final 18 holes on Tuesday with an 8 a.m. tee shot both days.

Chamber’s Bay Golf Course plays 7,068 yards and is a par 71.

The competition

There will be a 24-team field which will include host Seattle U, UTRGV, Abilene Christian, Boise State, Boston College, CSUN, California Baptist, Cleveland State, Delaware State, George Washington, Idaho, LaSalle, Lamar, Loyola Chicago, Oregon State, Pacific, Sacramento State, Seton Hall, UC San Diego, UT Arlington, UTEP, Washington (individuals only), West Carolina, and Wichita State.

UTRGV posted a fifth-place finish at the Big Texan Invitational with a three-round score of 889 with rounds of 303, 288, and 298, which was the third-lowest round of the tournament.

Taj Sutherland led the Vaqueros with a score of 219 in three rounds as they finished tied for seventh. Sutherland opened with a first round 78 before bouncing back with a second round three under par 69 and then closed with a par 72.

Juan Luis de Bethencourt Duque finished two strokes behind Sutherland tied for 12e with a three-round score of 221 after posting rounds of 72, 73 and 76.

Sebastien Lundberg finished tied for 26e with a three-round score of 225 with three consecutive rounds of 75.

Leonard Novella finished tied for 29e with a score of 227 in three rounds after having shot in rounds of 78, 71 and 78. Edmundo Mestawho was making his collegiate debut, finished tied for 51st with a three-round score of 235 with rounds of 80, 80 and 75.

Last time at the Redhawk Invitational

The Vaqueros did not participate in the Redhawk Invitational last year.
San Francisco won the tag team title last year with a three-round score of 14-under 842 as they won the event by seven strokes. Washington took second and Utah finished third with host Seattle U finishing in 12e.

Soren Lind of San Francisco won the individual title after posting a three-under five-under 209 with runs of 74, 62 and 73.
