Men’s Microlight Golf Set for SBC Championship at Mystic Creek

MONROE, Louisiana – The ULM men’s golf team opens play for the 2022 Sun Belt Conference Championship Sunday at Mystic Creek Golf Club in El Dorado, Arkansas on Sunday morning. The tournament consists of three rounds played over three days, with the top four teams in the 54-hole stroke play advancing to the match play semi-finals on Wednesday.

ULM is seeded fifth and is paired with Arkansas State and the Ragin’ Cajuns on Sunday. The first trios will start from the 10th tee at 8:30 am. The Warhawks have reached match play in each of the last two SBC championships in 2019 and 2021.

Mystic Creek is a par-72 of 7,181 yards. The club opened in 2013 and was built in hilly woodlands near El Dorado. The course features cathedral pines, high flashing bunkers and domed greens.

The ULM is designed to play with a program including Otto Van Buynder, Jacob Agerschou, Cody Winker, Melan Dhaubhadel and Mikkel Schmitt with Michael Gilbert traveling as a substitute.

Van Buynder has played in eight tournaments this year with one top 10 and four top 25s. He tied for second at Desert Mountain Collegiate, shooting 1-under 215 through a 4-under 68 (74-73-68) finish. ). He’s tied for 12th at Mossy Oak Collegiate at 2-under 216 (69-73-72). He is tied for second on the team with an average of 73.35 points. He leads the team in scoring par-4 (4.13), eagles (5), below average shots per round (3.57), double bogeys per round (0.30), putts averages (30.80), putts on greens in regulation (1.847), non-sand up and downs (.671), sand saves (.565) and total short game (.646).

Agerschou has played in eight tournaments this year with one top 10 and three top 25s. He finished tied for sixth at even 216 (68-71-77) at the Border Olympics. He shot 215-under at the Graeme McDowell Invitational (78-68-69). He is tied for second on the team with an average of 73.35 points. He leads the team in first round average (73.25), par-3 score (3.12), pars per round (10.87), bogeys per round (3.39), fairways hit (.668) , putting par (.60), greens in regulation (.686), greens in regulation within 15 feet (.483) and three-putt holes (1.05).

Winkler has played in eight tournaments this season with one top 10 and five top 25s. He finished tied for sixth at the Little Rock Invitational at 2-under 214 (70-73-71). His best score came at the season opener Jim Rivers Intercollegiate where he shot 3 under par 213 (74-69-70). He leads the team with an average of 73.26 points. He also leads the team in last-round average (71.88), par-5 (4.66), birdies (77) and birdie conversion (.282).

Dhaubhadel battled injuries to play in five tournaments this season with one top 10 and three top 25 finishes. He finished fourth at the Little Rock Invitational with a record 5-under 211 (72-71-68). He is fourth on the team with an average of 73.36.

Schmitt has played in five tournaments this season averaging 74.87. He shot a career-low 218 (74-71-73) and finished tied for 28th at the Graeme McDowell Invitational. Last year, he opened the SBC championship at Mystic Creek with a career-low 66 in the first round and finished in ninth place at 11 over par 227 (66-85-76).

Gilbert has played in three tournaments this season, with his best showing at the Jim Rivers Intercollegiate where he hit 13 over par 229 (78-71-80). He has an average of 77.11.
