Miner Women’s Golf to Enter Wyoming Cowgirl Classic

The UTEP women’s golf team is expected to open the game at the Wyoming Cowgirl Classic, which is hosted by Wyoming and takes place April 5-6.

UTEP will compete as a field of 20 teams starting April 5 in Maricopa, Arizona. The two-day 54-hole tournament takes place on the 6,131-yard par 72 course at Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club. Participating teams will play 36 holes on Monday before concluding the event with the remaining 18 holes on Tuesday morning.

The five UTEP golfers will start at 7:30 a.m. MT on Monday, while the final round kicks off with a gunshot at 7:30 a.m. MT on Tuesday.

Last time around, the UTEP women’s golf team wrapped up its game at the HBU Husky Invitational with the Miners finishing sixth for the team on March 16 at the Riverbend Country Club in Sugar Land, TX.

The miners were led by sophomore Sophie Delfosse, who placed second overall among individuals with a total of three rounds of 213 (71-69-73) to finish 3 under par for the event. His second-round score of 69 is a career low for Delfosse, as he is also tied for the lowest score recorded by an individual in this week’s event.

UTEP opened the game on Monday with a total of 306 teams in the first round to end the morning tied for eighth. In the second round that same afternoon, the Miners had their best round of the tournament, clocking a team total of 298 (+10) to end the day tied for fifth place.

The Miners closed out the final round on Tuesday morning shooting 307 as a group to end the tournament in sixth place out of 11 teams. The miners finished with a total of 911 in three rounds per team (306-298-307).

The Miners will be one of 20 teams competing in this year’s Wyoming Cowgirl Classic, featuring Wyoming, Boise State, Cal Bakersfield, Cal Fullerton State, Eastern Washington, Gonzaga, GCU, Hawaii, Idaho, State of Montana, Nevada, State of NM, Northern Arizona, Northern Colorado, State of Portland, Santa Clara, Seattle, State of South Dakota and Southern Utah.
