Nail Barker wins annual Brean Golf Club Christmas Open

Neil Barker claimed victory at the annual Brean Golf Club Christmas Open running at Stableford on the last day of 2021.

Barker’s 43 points were the best comeback in the two weeks of competition he compiled on Matchday 1 and he’s never been tied or beaten.

Nigel Ellis scored 42 points the next day to take second place while a few 41 points on the final day took third and fourth places.

Dave Jolly beat Tony Richards on countdown nine to finish in third place.

The remaining six main event prizes all went to all scores of 40 points, with the computer counting down working over time to separate them on the previous nine, six and three holes as required. each card.

Steve Martin took fifth place with the best of these cards ahead of former member Steve Bawden, now at Isle of Wedmore, in sixth.

Bawden took the opportunity of a game over the holiday season when his own course was soaked in water.

Brian Read posted two 40-point scores during the event and finished seventh and 10th.

Adam Cox and Pete Barton finished between Read’s score to finish in eighth and ninth place respectively.

The Winter League Stableford kicked off the 2022 competition schedule at Brean on Sunday and the result was a close affair after two players handed in very respectable 42-point returns in wet conditions.

It was Dan Reason who tasted the first victory of the new year after winning a countdown with Steve Jones thanks to the best of two total of nine points.

Tim Amy placed third with a stable score of 40 points and outperformed a foursome of 39 points.

Pete Hackett won the fourth and final prize by beating Steve Eley, Ian Adams and Jack Shepherd after another countdown.
