Nambucca Heads Island Golf Club – News from the area

Nambucca Heads Island Golf Club Women’s Christmas Party and Presentation Day.

Wet weather earlier this week and some royal tides restricted the use of carts and scooters to the Nambucca Heads Island Golf Club car path network – thank you to all who have followed this requirement in order to preserve our spongy fairways .

This week’s Featured Sponsor is Nambucca Glass – thanks to Craig Marsay and his team who also take care of the Club’s replacement glass and automatic doors.

On Tuesday December 7th, a Stableford Medley was won by Stephen Kimber (16) of Nambucca Newsagent with 42 points against Graham Watson (9) in form with 36 points.

Other good scores from Stuart Garvey 36, Jeffrey Vanderwyk 35 and Keith Elphick 34, with a total of 32 points.

Wednesday December 8th was the Women’s Christmas Party and Showcase Day with a 9 Hole Stableford 3 Club and putter event – a fun day with the ladies in their best Christmas outfits, decorated golf carts and lots of bubbles to keep everyone happy.

Division 1 (scratch at 25) was won by Glenys Thompson (13) on the countdown to female champion Sue Brooks (12) – both with 15 points.

Division 2 (26-34) was won by Debra Gersbach (27) with 16 points over Jennifer Ainsworth (32) with 14 points.

Division 3 (35-45) was won by Wendy Avery (45) with 15 points over Kerry Shearer (38) with 14 points.

Thursday December 9 was a Medley Stableford – numbers were down due to threatening afternoon thunderstorms and wet conditions prohibiting the use of golf carts on the fairways.

Unfortunately for the last groups, the announced storm has arrived and the game had to be suspended due to the threat of lightning.

Division 1 (scratch at 19) was won by Stuart Johnston (9) with 37 points from Drew Glasson (10) with 36 points.

Division 2 (20-45) was won by Dennis Ashton (20) with a fantastic 44 point lap – I understand 3 chip-ins from the top nine – to win against David Ogilvy (23) with 37 points .

Other good scores from Anthony Smith and Donald Lavery 35, Peter Drysdale (Urunga) and Linne Street 34, the ball won at 29 in the count
