The third leg of the tour will be part of the local US Kids Golf Tournament.

Nairobi, March 10, 2022 The third leg of the Safaricom Golf Tour will take place at Muthaiga Golf Club this weekend. The tournament attracted over 200 amateur and professional golfers who will take part in the 18-hole corporate tournament on Saturday with over 100 junior golfers set to grace the course on Sunday.

The junior golf tournament will also double up as a local US Kids Golf tour event, which kicked off with the Limuru leg of the Safaricom Golf Tour two weeks ago.

“We have seen some exciting action during the first two stages of the inaugural Safaricom Golf Tour, particularly with the junior tournaments. We also continue to hold clinics for young aspiring golfers as we seek to demystify the sport and position it as an accessible sport We have already seen the impressive performance at the Kenya Open last weekend from teenage golfer Njoroge Kibugu who started playing at the age of 6, which shows that our focus growth in junior golf will certainly pay off, said Peter Ndegwa, CEO of Safaricom.

The Muthaiga leg of the tour comes just a week after the club hosted the Magical Kenya Open 2022, won by Chinese professional golfer Ashun Wu. The club has also signed a one-year deal with Safaricom for trademark rights in certain sections of the club for the next year.

“We are delighted to host Safaricom here at the Home of Golf and we are proud to see how the company is committed to nurturing and developing talent in the sport. I believe that with such a commitment to our juniors, we are destined to become a better golfer nation,” said Ronald Meru, President of Muthaiga Golf Club.

Safaricom has invested KES 100 million in the golf circuit, which aims to nurture and develop talent in the country. The tour will be played at 14 golf clubs across the country.

Last year, Safaricom also announced a three-year partnership with the Junior Golf Foundation (JGF) to help develop and develop golf in Kenya. The partnership also saw the introduction of a US Kids Golf Local Tour competition which will give qualified golfers the opportunity to play in regional, international and global competitions organized by the US Kids Golf Foundation.

The phone company also recently sponsored the Magical Kenya Ladies Open and the Magical Kenya Open.
