The USGA has awarded five more US Open Championships and four US Open Women’s Championships to two of the nation’s most successful golf courses, the Oakmont Country Club and the Merion Golf Club.

The USGA has also pledged to hold its National Championships in Keystone State with greater frequency, beyond the 18 Championships now scheduled in the Commonwealth through 2050.

This week’s US Amateur in Oakmont marks the 88th USGA Championship held in Pennsylvania, the most of any state and the last in a state-USGA relationship that began with the US Women’s Amateur 1899 at the Philadelphia Country Club and continued with the US 1904 Female Amateur at Merion and 1919 American Amateur at Oakmont.

“Oakmont and Merion are iconic in every sense of the word – they are in rare company in golf and continue to test the best in the game,” said Jean Bodenhamer, USGA Senior General Manager, Championships. “We are making history and ushering in a new era for our national championships in Pennsylvania, and we couldn’t be more excited for what lies ahead. “

Oakmont Country Club, which was previously announced as the host venue for the 2025 US Open, will host the 2028 and 2038 Women’s US Opens, the 2034, 2042 and 2049 US Opens, the 2033 Walker Cup Match and the 2046 US Women’s Amateur. It will become the second US Open anchor site named by the USGA, with the goal of returning every five to six years to iconic sites with a deep and meaningful history of the USGA Championship. Pinehurst Resort & Country Club was designated an anchor site last year.

Including this week’s US Amateur, Oakmont has hosted 17 USGA Championships, with a list of winners that includes Dustin Johnson (United States Open 2016), Paula Creamer (2010 US Women’s Open), Ernie Els (United States Open 1994), Patty sheehan (1992 US Women’s Open), Johnny miller (1973 US Open), Jack nicklaus (US Open 1962), Ben Hogan (1953 US Open) and Bob jones (1925 American amateur).

“Our members and all of Pittsburgh are thrilled to welcome the USGA and the game’s best players to Oakmont, which we believe is one of the most demanding tests of golf in the world,” said the president of the Oakmont Country Club. Ed Stack noted. “It’s the perfect place to identify the best golfers from around the world, in concert with the USGA’s mission for championship golf.”

The Merion Golf Club in Ardmore, which was previously the host site for the 2022 Curtis Cup and 2026 US Amateur matches, will host four more Opens: the US Open 2030 and 2050 and the US Open Women’s 2034 and 2046 , with additional championships to be named in the future.
