Sidmouth Golf Club Results
Members of Sidmouth Golf Club played for Sidmouth Jewelers Stableford on Friday and it was another hotly contested affair.
After all scorecards were submitted and signed, Len Wright won the countdown with a solid 40 points, narrowly beating Russell Bess for second place. James Pickard took third place with 38.
On Saturday, Sidmouth hosted the annual East Devon Trophy match between Sidmouth, Ax Cliff, Honiton and East Devon clubs. Playing four-way stableford with one from each club, the outcome was decided by each team’s set of six best scores.
Fortunately, and probably unsurprisingly, Sidmouth used their local knowledge and took the honors and the trophy with a score of 187 points. East Devon were close behind with 175, Honiton 167 and Ax Cliff, playing with a short player scored 158.
A carve-up dinner was followed by the presentation of the trophy by Sidmouth Club captain Alan Billinghurst to B team captain Hugh Dorliac, with each member of the winning team receiving a medal.
The summer weather has returned for the Susan Bawden Salver competition. Susan was a former member of the club and her husband Roger donated the tray in Susan’s memory.
The winning team with an excellent score of 83 points was Andrea Milton, Linda Reynolds and Penny Anderson winning on the countdown of Penny Lyne, Mandy Furniss and Jane Renken.
Roger came to present the platter to the winning team and stayed to join the ladies with their post-match refreshments.
If you ever fancy a round at Sidmouth, the course offers a great challenge for golfers of all abilities and with stunning views from all 18 holes, it will be hard for you to focus on your golf. After your round, be sure to experience the 19th hole with a drink on the balcony and a delicious meal from the restaurant.
A visitor said: “Excellent course, great views, some challenging par 3 holes, the course uses the natural contours and undulations to create a good test of golf. Clubhouse was good, food high quality, would definitely recommend playing here.”
