Women’s golf set to host YSU spring invite on Friday

The Youngstown State women’s golf team will continue their spring schedule on Friday when they host the YSU Spring Invitational at Youngstown Country Club in Youngstown, Ohio.

The Penguins are coming off a sixth-place finish at the Dolores Black Falcon Invitational on Sunday. Danae Rugola finished tied for 13th with a score of 154 (79-75) in two rounds to claim his fifth top 15 of the season. Lizzie Saur finished tied for 20th with a 155 in two rounds (81-74) to collect his third top 20 of the campaign.

The tournament field for the YSU Spring Invitational will also include Cleveland State and Niagara. Tee times for Number 1 will begin at 2 p.m. as the course plays 18 holes in the one-day event. The course will play approximately 5,836 yards and the par is 71. There will be no live scoring and results will be posted at the end of play.

The head coach Nate Miklos announced that YSU’s lineup will include Rugola, Puthita Khuanrudee, Christine LewisSaur and madie smithco. Besides, Victoria Grans, Kelly Huton, Britney Jonda, Ally St. Clair, Tori Utrup and Jenna Vivo will compete as individuals.

Rugola and Saur have appeared in each of YSU’s top 10 events this season. Lewis and Smitcho have each appeared in eight events while Utrup has appeared in seven tournaments. Khuanrudee, St. Clair and Vivo each competed in four events while Jonda competed in three tournaments. Gräns ​​and Hutton will each compete in their third event of the season. Rugola leads the team with an average of 75.9 strokes per round in the first nine stroke play events of the 2021-22 season.

Youngstown State is hosting the YSU Spring Invitational for the first time since the 2018-19 season. The event has not taken place for the past two seasons due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This will be the Penguins’ final tune-up before the Horizon League Golf Championships April 24-26.
